This spring, our partners at Climate XChange analyzed the comprehensiveness of US Climate Alliance states’ climate action plans, compared against our Building Blocks of State Climate Policy framework.

They found:

  • Only 18 of the 24 states have released draft or final plans.
  • Of these, state Climate Action Plans driven by legislative action are 13% percent more comprehensive than those driven by executive order alone.
  • Some policy areas are more widespread than others — indicating key areas education and engagement.

We’re thrilled to see the Building Blocks toolkit being put to use not only by legislators, but also groups like Climate XChange doing critical research & movement support — and we’re excited to continue working collaboratively to ensure state legislators have the resources they need to pass bold, equitable, urgent climate policy.
