We’ve been busy! Mid-year update

Climate Cabinet Education

Climate Cabinet Education has grown and accomplished a lot over the past few months, so we wanted to share a quick update on our work!

As you know, state and local governments must play a central role in the clean energy transition and advancing environmental justice. But these local players often don’t have the resources they need on a technical and rapidly changing issue like clean energy. And, the sheer number of local offices makes it even harder to direct support to key players.

That’s why we’re using data science and policy toolkits to identify key opportunities, coordinate action, and add capacity for local climate advocates and policymakers alike.

Here are some of Climate Cabinet Education’s key accomplishments from the past 6 months:

Policy Capacity Program

  1. Supporting climate champs in state legislatures: since December, over 200 state legislators, staff, and advocates have downloaded our climate policy toolkit for state legislators.
  2. Adding capacity for the climate movement: at least four cross-state legislative support networks and advocacy networks are also using our policy toolkit to build out their own climate policy programs.

Local Climate Data Program

  1. Creating environmental justice tools for advocates: in March, we released our Texas Environmental Justice mapping tool at a press conference with State Rep. Erin Zwiener and our partners at Texas Rising. Texas Rising is now using this tool for activist education.
  2. Uncovering strategic opportunities: with so many local jurisdictions around the US, the climate community needs a systematic way to identify key opportunities where supporting advocates or policymakers could have an outsized climate impact. Without this, key opportunities are flying under the radar. We’re scoping out data systems and partnerships to make this happen.

Can you put any of these resources to use in your work? Let us know!

Thanks as always for your support.
